James E. Tanner, Susan Caroline "Carrie" Ennis, Joseph M. Marcus and Rose Bluestone were my grandparents, all born in the last quarter of the 19th century. This tree documents the "Direct Ancestors" (with some siblings) portion of my over 40 years of historic and genealogical research.
I have adopted the following style conventions for all entries: Women are listed by their maiden name except for those whose maiden names are unknown, in those cases their husband's family name is used, indicated by ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Where only initials are known, they are followed by a period. Over time, it is my hope to include links to other interesting information, both personal and historical, in the notes field of individuals in order to better understand the times in which they lived. Where well-established genealogical information exists beyond the scope of the present work (earlier generations), those Ancestors will be included at a later date; for example see the notes for Gruffydd ap Cynan. Finally, a note on medieval Welsh names: These are patronymics with the prefixes "ab" meaning "son of" and "verch" meaning "daughter of."
At present, this is as complete a documentation as I have been able to achieve given the materials that are available online, supplemented by a few additions from visits to several libraries and archives in the United States. Until such time as I am able to engage in future travels which would necessarily have to include the United Kingdom, it is unlikely that any new major breakthroughs will be found. Anyone having additional insights with substantiating documentation is asked to please contact the author.
I am deeply grateful for the tremendous work accomplished by M. K. Miles of Saxis, VA: http://espl-genealogy.org/MilesFiles/site/index.htm. The MilesFiles contains over 94,000 names from the Eastern Shore counties of Accomack and Northampton, Virginia; Somerset, Worcester and Wicomico, Maryland; and Sussex Co, Delaware. Thanks also to the New York Public Library which made Ancestry available with an NYPL Library Card off-site during the Corona Virus Pandemic of 2020. I deeply appreciate the assistance Cherie Beardslee Tanner has given me to clarify and correct Gary's line of the Tanner family.
There are currently 165 photos, some of documents and vital records, grave stones, portraits and more; small number of PDF and other documents are also included here..
